Songs By The Way

Join the Ouseburn Folk Choir and researchers from Newcastle University for an evening of song and history.

People have often sung as they strolled and wheeled along paths and ways. Clare Hickman and Abbi Flint will share highlights from new research into the history and development of paths and ways, and invite you to share your experiences and thoughts about the connections between singing and being on paths.

Janice Burns and the Ouseburn Folk Choir will bring the past into the present through singing a selection of songs from early twentieth-century songbooks used by working-class walking groups and co-operative holiday organisations.

The event is free and refreshments will be available. Come along if you're interested in history, folksong, or footpaths.
